Does anyone remember my dad Phil Shawyer? He was in 42 cdo. He lived in Malta for a few years around 1973. His wife, my mum is now sadly widowed. Vi spends some time in Malta and wondered if there was anyone in similar predicament looking for friends.
This isn't a lonely hearts ad, please read this as it is intended. Life has a way of throwing nasty blows, I am trying to help my mum find friends and happiness again.
Your mother will always be welcome to attend any of our events, the Corps is still a family, please keep your eyes open on our pages and let her know if anything is going on, hope you get some more responses.
Thank you Nigel. I will keep checking the site and keep my mum updated. I was hoping there was a wives club that organised outings while in Malta. Might be an idea for someone to take up?
I knew Phil when he was in 5 troop F Coy 41 Cdo from 1972. We were both young Marines in our first unit. between us we bought a yellow ford escort between us (duty free in those days). a nice person your dad and it was a shock to hear of his passing. I know you are proud of him and rightly so as i was proud to know him.
There is no military here now so a wives club as such does not exist but as Nigel points out there our events here mostly organised by the RMA Malta branch and as he said if she is over here just check to see if any events are scheduled and give Nigel a call/mail.
Hi Ron . . You must be the hardest man on the planet to get hold off . . . we launched 'RMA Cyprus' last year so when are you coming over?

Hi, I served in Recce Troop 42 Commando ,did 2 tours in Borneo as well as the Aden withdrawal . Later joined the Devon & Cornwall Police for 4 yrs then emigrated to join the Toronto Police. Looking for anyone who may remember me. Planning a trip to Malta next yr
Hi Jock, You may vaguely remember me used to be oppo of Sam Roberts, Darkie Munroe and all recce troop 42. I am going to Malta in January 2017,..hic! I was in 41 in '74' anyway all the best hope you had a 'good run at Xmas'. F the D.
I am looking for an oppo of mine that I joined up on him telling me how good it was in the Corps, he was based in Malta with 41 Cdo RM and left the Corps, married in Malta and stayed there. His name was Paul Langstaff. I went on to serve 25 years and still looking for him. TO thank him for the advice and maybe he should have taken it himself. I believe he lives still in Malta is he a member of the RMA or does anyone know him.
I am researching the career of Mne Malcolm Crossland of B Tp, 40 Cdo 1959-61 in Malta, on behalf of his daughter, Karen. He died in 1963 with 45 Cdo in Aden & she never knew him. I served 30 years in the Corps, with 40 & 45 Cdo, and offered to put his career together for her & have been able to glean a lot from Corps archives and other research.
I have most of it together now, but would very much like to hear from anyone who knew him or who served with him. Photos would be especially welcome, currently we have 2 photos of him between us!
I am trying to find a Maltese Soldier Charles Agius who served in Troon Scotland in 1965/66 He lived in St Pauls Bay Anyone knoow him? Thank you
Looking through an old photo album of my dad’s, came across a photo “Chas Nelson & me, Balboa 1954”. A quick internet search lead me here...
If Chas, or anyone else who knew my dad Gordon “Butch” Watts, I’d be eternally grateful for any stories.
Sadly, the Big C took him 30-odd years ago now...
Was always proud of his serving in The Royals & would’ve tried myself but for my respect for his wish I didn’t join up.
All I really know of him was he joined in 1948, retired in 1970 & spent some time in ‘A’ Troop 40 Commando.
Amongst other things I know, he was on the Sheffield during HM the Queen’s cornonation tour (where the photo’s from), and was involved in tours in Borneo, Malaya, Aden & Suez etc. but I’ve not much but half remembered stories from when I was a kid to go by.
Would dearly love to hear from anyone who knew him & what you all got up to; if only so his grandchildren know a bit more about the man...
Many thanks in anticipation.
I am meeting Chaz and Kate today and will show them this post
Thank you Jules; that really will be most greatly appreciated,
I'm in the process of tracing my father. I don't have a lot of information apart from his name is David p Hurley and he was born in imtarfa in 1962. If anyone has any information on a marine serving around this time by the name Hurley or any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
Looking for someone send a post and someone may know where they are.
